What is a consumer index? How LAVNDR120 works
Last updated: 1 November 2026
The short answer
A consumer index is a single number that summarises consumption activity across a group of goods or organisations and is updated regularly, so you can see whether consumption is rising or falling.
LAVNDR120 is the consumer index of the Lavenders system: it measures the real order activity of 120 businesses and brands in one market, updated moment by moment.
What makes LAVNDR120 different
- It moves with real orders that each business records in its own order system (OMS).
- It covers 120 businesses and brands in one market, not a single business.
- It is shown to everyone on the home page in the “Net Asset Value” card.
How the index moves
- 120 businesses: each has its own order app.
- Every new order raises its business's weight inside the index.
- More orders mean a higher index value.
What the card shows
- Current value of the index in US dollars.
- Change: the difference from the previous value, in amount and percent.
- High: the highest value the index reached today.
- Low: the lowest value it fell to today.
- Volatility: how much the index moved during the day; the higher it is, the more movement.
How to read it
A rising index means more real orders in the market; a falling index means fewer. The index shows direction; it does not explain the cause on its own.
What it is not
- Not a stock and not a trading price: there is no buying, selling or trading of shares on the platform.
- Not a promise of profit or returns. This content is informational, not investment advice.
- Not related to lavender plants. The name is a brand for a market system.
